How to get rid of pimples quickly requires you to maintain healthy skin. While there are thousands of products and treatments available to help improve the quality of your skin, only a small percentage of these are natural.

Most beauty products contain harsh, damaging chemicals. Although treatments such as chemical peels and botox have become popular, there is no conclusive proof as to what most of these treatments and chemicals will do to the skin years later. If you want to have great looking skin without dangerous chemicals or procedures, here are 5 tips to help keep your skin remain healthy.

Tip #1: Nutritious diet. You’ve probably heard the phrase "you are what you eat." If you think about it, this old saying is quite true. If you want your body to function properly and look its best, you need to include the nutrients it needs and avoid foods that cause damage. For beautiful skin, you should try have more fiber intake and "good fats" in your diet; and avoid foods with a lot of sugar.

Tip #2: Drink 8 glasses of water a day. All cells need water to function properly. If your skin cells aren’t properly hydrated, waste products build up in your cells. Also, if you don’t drink enough water, your cells will retain as much as they can and you’ll end up looking puffy and bloated.

Tip #3: Circulation. To function properly, our cells need to get plenty of oxygen. If you spend your days sitting at a desk or remaining mostly immobile, your circulation probably isn't as good as it could be. Increase your circulation by getting more exercise, stretching, or getting regular massages. You can also use a brush to exfoliate your skin which improves circulation while removing old, dead cells. Not only will this give your skin a better look, it can also reduce the appearance of unsightly cellulite.

Tip #4: Stay out of the sun. Although a little sun is good for you, due to it providing Vitamin D, too much sun can age your skin. Use hats, clothes, or sun block to protect you from damaging UV rays.

Tip #5: Natural skin products. Traditional beauty products contain all many unnatural chemicals. Most are there as preservatives, which are designed to enhance color or texture. These chemicals not only have no value to your skin, some may cause cancer and other dangerous problems. It’s beneficial to use natural products if you want to look your best and stay healthy. Just be sure to check labels, as many products will claim they’re natural or organic, and only contain one natural or organic ingredient. Be wary of ingredients you can’t pronounce and look for certification seals to be sure you’re getting what you pay for. Not only will these help normal skin, they’re also less likely to irritate sensitive skin.

Bathtub Aromatherapy 101

Smell is the sense that's the most strongly linked to our emotions and memories. You can tell every time you smell something from your childhood--whether it's that perfume your mom used to wear, the smell of meatloaf in the oven, or the scent of freshly cut grass on a Saturday morning, we've all got a few scent triggers that bring us back to a simpler time. It's no wonder that smells are now believed to have beneficial properties that can cause us to relax, perk up, feel better, or whatever else we need. And if you want to get into aromatherapy, the perfect place to do it is already installed in your house--the bathtub.

When starting on aromatherapy, you'll encounter two different types of oils: essential and fragrance. Fragrance oils are synthetics, and while they may be fine for perfumes, they aren't considered ideal for aromatherapy use. Essential oils are more desirable; they're made from parts of the plant itself: the roots, leaves, stalks, pods, flower petals, etc. They can be very strong, and before using an essential oil in your bathtub, it's important to do a skin test to determine if you have any allergies. Simply put a drop of the oil on your wrist, and don't wash it for 24 hours. If you don't notice any pain, itching, raised welts, or any other reactions during this time, the oil is safe for you to use.

Essential oils are very strong, however, and many aromatherapy experts advocate diluting them in a carrier oil such as sweet almond before applying them to the skin or using them in the bathtub. Only about 5 drops or less should be used in a bath. Here are a few common oils used in bath aromatherapy, and their effects:

Lavender. One of the most common therapeutic oils, lavender is sweet-smelling and makes you smell great once you get out of the bathtub, too. Lavender is believed to have mentally relaxing and soothing properties, and it's great for anyone who's had a stressful day. It's also said to be good for skin conditions such as eczema, headaches, insomnia, dry skin, and hot flashes, and it's got antiseptic properties as well. It's very soothing on bug bites and other skin irritations.

Eucalyptus. This one is used for people with respiratory problems. Breathing in eucalyptus-scented steam is said to clear airways and soothe lungs, and there's no better way to do that than in a bath.

Chamomile. Chamomile, like lavender, is said to be relaxing and soothing. It's one of the oldest aromatherapy ingredients around, and has been used to treat muscle spasms, reduce tension, and calm agitation. It's also said to be very beneficial for the skin and the scalp, and is often prescribed to treat acne and dandruff.

Sage. Sage is another ancient aromatherapy ingredient, used in the Ottoman Empire and in Medieval Europe to treat skin conditions, rheumatism, and arthritis. In ancient times, sage was believed to have life-extending properties, and was often prescribed to aging patients for its rejuvenating effects. Nowadays, it's used for its beneficial effects on swollen joints, as well as on skin.

Tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is used to stimulate the immune system. It improves the body's ability to respond to viruses and bacteria. It's good for anyone who's got a cold or the flu.

Peppermint oil is great for the skin. It clears up acne and serves to dry out particularly oily skin and blemishes. It's also good for migraines and indigestion.

Citrus oils such as orange and lemon are great mental pick-me-ups. Often included in blends said to relieve depression, these scents cheer you up and give you energy. Great for starting off a big day with a relaxing bath that's sure to put you in a good mood.

Rosemary is good for aching muscles, nervous tension, premenstrual syndrome, sinus congestion, and indigestion.

Aromatherapy is a great way to spice up an ordinary bath. No matter what physical or mental challenges you're wrestling with, chances are there's a scent or scent combination that's tailor made for you. Experiment with different blends and talk to an aromatherapist for recommendations for the best oils for whatever ails you.

The History of Lavender Oil and It’s Uses

Lavender oil is an essential oil extracted from the flowers of the lavender plant, usually by a process of steam distillation. It's a very well known essential oil, and is extensively used in aromatherapy for its many beneficial properties.

Just for starters, lavender oil has been shown to relieve tension, ease tiredness, and reduce feelings of depression. Lavender oil can be utilized in many ways to achieve these ends. Very simply, lavender oil can be applied to a tissue or handkerchief and placed nearby while you work or sleep. Another popular way of using lavender oil is to place it in an oil burner or diffuser, and allow heat to gently dissipate the fragrance into the atmosphere, allowing you to breathe in the powerful aromas and the medicinal chemical compounds present in the lavender oil.

Lavender oil can also be added directly to bath water, preferably while the water is still running. Unlike many essential oils, lavender oil can be used directly on the skin, so it's not at all irritating. When you bathe in water that's had lavender oil added, you get the benefit of the oil not only from breathing in the aromas released by the steam, but also by absorbing some of the oil through your skin.

One important use of lavender oil that few people know about is its ability to heal burns. Putting oil on a burn seems like contradictory advice; however, lavender oil provides one of the best ways of healing and soothing burns, and if applied as soon as possible after the burn has occurred, can alleviate both pain and assist in healing.

If you are prone to burning yourself, perhaps on the oven, fireplace or even spilling boiling water on yourself lavender oil really does work wonders. All you do is apply a few drops of lavender oil to the recently burned area, and cover it with a bandage or sticking plaster (depending upon the size of the burn). The pain usually disappears within the hour (again depending upon the severity of the burn), and the burn heals easily and quickly.

The story behind the discovery of lavender oil as a treatment for burns is an interesting one. In 1910 the French chemist and perfumer, Rene Maurice Gattefosse, burned his hand badly while working in his laboratory. The only liquid close to hand was lavender oil, so without thinking, he plunged his hand straight into the oil. Not only was the pain eased almost immediately, but his hand healed quickly without scarring, much to his own surprise and delight.

Having given medical advice, it's necessary to state that you shouldn't try treating an extremely serious burn, especially on a child with anything except immediate cold water. While lavender oil is fantastic for minor burns and sunburn, it can't take the place of correct medical burn treatment when it's necessary.

Lavender oil has so many beneficial properties that it should be an integral part of anyone's medicine cabinet.

A Brief History of Tea Tree Oil and it's Uses

Tea Tree Oil has been known to the Bundjalung Tribe of New South Wales Australia for hundreds of years for its medicinal properties.

This wonder oil was only tested scientifically in the early 1920's by Arthur Penfold and found to be around 12 times more powerful than carbolic acid and yet caused no harm to the skin. It was used extensively by the Australian Defence Force during World War Two but due to the discovery of synthetic drugs did not become popular again until the 1960's.

Over the years it has proved itself as a natural antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory oil. One great development was that it was found to deep penetrate the skin cleaning it and encouraging the formation of scar tissue.

Some of the medical uses include healing blisters, reducing swelling from insect bites and stings, cleaning and healing abrasions and cuts, cures athletes foot and is very helpful in the healing of acne. It will cure a sore throat, cold sores, coughs and dental abscesses. It will solve most day to day first aid and medical problems.

It also lends to daily beauty care as putting drops in shampoo, body lotion, hand cream and in the bath will keep hair and skin clean and healthy. A couple of drops on toothpaste will prevent gum infections and bad breathe. It helps take the sting out of sunburn and softens corns and calluses.

Tea Tree Oil's anti-bacterial properties also extend use in the household chores, making the house clean and healthy. Putting drops in the humidifier will clean, disinfect and refresh the air and putting drops in the dishwasher and washing machine will kill all the germs.

Tea Trees only grow in Australia. There are many brands that are from inferior trees and not from the genuine Tea Tree whose Botanical name is Malaeuca.
